We're off to see the Wi...I mean, POPE!

Buongiorno! Jeff here and as the subject states, we're heading to the Vatican this morning. So glad our guide, Kate, recommended 9am as it will be hot before noon.

Until this trip, I didn't realize you had to get dressed up to go to the Vatican, and really any church you visit in Italy. Shorts are allowed if they are below the knee - uhm aren't those capris, not shorts - and you have to have sleeves on your shirt. Hopefully the Pope can afford air conditioning.

Some random reflections before we go:
Rome is gorgeous! It is that perfect blend of old world and new world, where everything looks interesting and note worthy - even random doorways we pass by.

Or random crumblies you happen to stumble upon by taking a wrong turn.

Scooters rule here! The drivers are more aggressive than in the States and maneuver through traffic with ease. It's so tempting to rent one and explore Rome this way, however the roads are like spaghetti and we get lost just walking. Better to stick to foot traffic.

Pasta is meant to served al dente - both of the carbonaras I have had the pleasure of devouring had al dente spaghetti and it was wonderful! What I love is that the pasta does more than act as a carrier of sauce. It holds it's own to the textures and flavor  of the dish.

More to come - ciao!
